With recent changes to the CAA Drone Regulations in the UK, it's now a requirement for anyone looking to operate drones in the Specific Category, to hold their General Visual Line of Sight Certificate... Otherwise known as the 'GVC'.
This means that EVERYONE looking to operate drones between 0 and 25kgs under an Operational Authorisation, now need to 'upgrade' their qualifications to the UK CAA GVC.
This process normally involves 3 main components:
- Theory Learning & Exam
- Practical Flight Test
- A new CAA Operations Manual
However, we believe that if you have the relevant experience, then you shouldn't have to waste your time going through all these steps again... Course Overview:
If you already have a current CAA OA (formerly PfCO) and an NQE Recommendation Certificate, this course offers an option to convert your NQE Recommendation Certificate over to a General Visual Line of Sight Certificate. This will allow you to continue operating under a PDRA01 Operational Authorisation (OA) issued by the CAA
Eligibility:
To be eligible to enter the GVC Conversion Course, you must:
✅ Have held a CAA PfCO or Operational Authorisation in the past
✅ Have logged 2 Hours of Drone Flying in the 3 months before completing your GVC Conversion Course Theory Examination
Be able to provide copies of:
- ⭐Your original Theory and Practical Training Certificates from your original Training Provider
- ⭐A copy of your logbook showing 2 hours flying in the last 3 months, and;
- ⭐A copy of your previously held CAA permissions (PfCO or OA)
If you're not able to 'tick all the requirements', then you'll need to complete the full GVC Course which you can find HERE.
The GVC Conversion Course Includes the following:
- Video-based E-Learning of GVC syllabus
- Remote Online Theory Examination
- Flight Examination Exemption (submission of evidence required)
- Operations Manual Update to CAA PDRA-01 Standards
- Award of General VLOS Certificate
Exemption from the Practical Flight Test:
To be exempt from the Flight Examination, you must meet specific criteria. If you are unable to submit evidence of the required criteria, you will be required to upgrade to the full GVC Course and pay the cost difference between your entry cost into the GVC Conversion Course and the full GVC Course, at the time of 'upgrading'.
